The exhibition gathers the works of Július Koller, Jirí Kovanda and Roman Ondák, as a multi-layered constellation, confronting their attitudes, aiming at revealing formal and fundamental inheritage or connections as well as differenciating their positions.

Július Koller’s and Jirí Kovanda’s work bridge disciplines and reflect on the circumstances of life in a particular social and historical context and within an unofficial art world and audience. In response to the end of the dream of a “third way” following the Prague Spring, Július Koller reinvents himself as a “U.F. O. -naut” and performs subtle feats of imagination, poetry and political declaration that mesh with reality. At the same time Jirí Kovanda made small incursions into what we perceive as normal behaviour by inserting an element of uncertainty; if he still rejects a strictly political reading of his work, some of his actions and interventions, could have a political significance and represent a disturbance in the order of things. Both works focus on impossible communication, the place of the human in the universe, and both artists fictionalize their questions and doubts about the world and the reality. From a younger generation, Roman Ondák uses the exhibition as at once an evolving space of performance and an area of distancing, where parallel time-frames intersect and individual experience mixes with social praxis. The sentence of Július Koller about his own practice could actually echo both artists’ spirit: “my work is an anthropocentric principle of understanding man in nature and in the cosmos”.
